Caustic soda flakes 98.5

Caustic soda flakes 98.5

Caustic Soda Flakes (NaOH) is a white, odorless, solid, and highly alkaline chemical. Produced as flakes with a purity of 98.5%, it is one of the most important basic chemicals and is widely used across various industries.

Caustic soda or sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is a highly corrosive chemical compound, supplied as white flakes or pellets with a purity of approximately 98.5%. It is highly hygroscopic and absorbs carbon dioxide from the air, releasing heat upon contact with water. Caustic soda has wide industrial applications, including soap and detergent production, pulp and paper industry, water treatment, chemical processing, and pH adjustment. Due to its high corrosiveness, strict safety precautions such as gloves, protective goggles, and proper ventilation must be observed during use.
Applications
Caustic soda flakes play a vital role in many industries due to their strong alkalinity:
1. Chemical and Petroleum Industries
  • pH adjustment in chemical processes
  • Neutralization of acids in refineries
  • Production of other alkaline compounds
2. Pulp and Paper
  • Lignin extraction from wood
  • Pulp production using the Kraft process
3. Textile and Leather
  • Causticizing cotton fibers
  • Leather tanning processes
4. Detergents and Soaps
  • Production of household and industrial soaps and detergents
5. Food Industry
  • Washing fruits and vegetables
  • Processing olives and molasses
  • pH adjustment in certain food products
6. Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic
  • Synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds
  • Production of exfoliating masks and personal care products
7. Water and Wastewater Treatment
  • Increasing alkalinity
  • Removal of heavy metals
  • pH control in industrial and municipal water systems
Safety Precautions
Caustic soda is highly corrosive and can cause severe burns to skin and eyes. When handling or using this chemical, observe the following precautions:
  • Wear resistant gloves, safety goggles, and acid-resistant clothing
  • Avoid direct contact with skin, eyes, and clothing
  • In case of contact, rinse with plenty of water and seek medical attention
  • If ingested, do not induce vomiting and seek immediate medical help
  • Always add caustic soda to water when preparing solutions (never the reverse)
  • Store in a dry, cool place away from moisture
Storage Conditions
  • Store in moisture-resistant bags
  • Avoid contact with water, steam, and acids
  • Containers should be made of polyethylene, polypropylene, or stainless steel
  • Warehouse should be free from food and flammable materials and out of reach of children
